Yesterday Sunshine

(A) Yesterday sunshine, today we have rain
I miss you my boy 'cause you're no longer here
Only just saw you off on the train
And I get to meditate over my beer
Yes, over my beer again

(B) How fast four weeks pass, now you're back over there
With your mother, her man and school starting soon
So much this summer I wanted to share
I thought to myself this noon

(A) We had a good summertime, didn't we son?
Still many things of all I had planned
I realize now that we didn't get done
Time slipped away like a handful of sand
A handful of sand my son

(B) We didn't get out on the lake this year
Our fishing rods hanging unused on the wall
A shame when I think of the skies so clear
We should've gone after all

(A) You had many, as often, ideas that were great
How with games and adventure our time we could spend
Too often I just let you sit there and wait
Housework to do and a roof there to mend
Just a roof to mend my mate

(Part B instrumental)

(A) Come to think of it now, we didn't play ball
Though I bought you a new one on our first day
Meant to do heaps with you but after all
Everything else seemed to get in the way
Get in the way of all

(B) Yesterday sunshine, today skies are black
I slept through the sun but now widely awake
Wheels of our time never can be turned back
But I wish we'd been on that lake

Yes I wish we'd been on that beautiful lake
